Jamaican dancehall sensation Popcaan, has secured his first Gold Certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for featuring on Jamie XX’s I Know There’s Gonna Be (Good Times) single which saw 500,000 copies sold.
The exciting news was released on Tuesday (March 9) by RIAA, but Popcaan took to Instagram a day later to share the good news with his fans.
The single also features American rapper Young Thug and its official music video received 19 million views on YouTube.
The music video, filmed in New York and Jamaica, captures the chemistry between dancehall and American hip hop and how well the artistes sync together for a smooth effort.
An appealing aesthetic in an idyllic setting is the perfect description for the visual.
I Know There’s Gonna Be (Good Times) peaked at No. 115 on the UK singles Chart, No. 90 on the Australian ARIA charts and No. 35 on Billboard.
Popcaan previously earned a Silver certification from the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) for I Know There’s Gonna Be (Good Times)
The certification for silver in the UK is equivalent to 200,000 units sold.
The single went viral and grew in popularity over the years.
It was featured on the soundtrack for the video games NBA Live 16, NBA 2K17and for the late Kobe Bryant’s MyCareer Spot, respectively.
Popcaan’s Promise single was featured on this year’s NBA 2K21 soundtrack among a host of other artistes.
The Numbers Don’t Lie artiste has become one of the most sought-after local entertainers who continues to make music with artistes locally and internationally.
Popcaan continues to gain international recognition after joining forces with the Drake’s OVO in 2019.
In November last year, he notched two Billboard plaques, a feat he achieved with his two albums, Vanquish (2019) and FIXTAPE (2020), which were released after he signed with OVO Sound. Both albums peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Reggae Album chart, while FIXTAPE hit No. 94 on the Hot 200 chart.
