The Jamaica Party (JLP) has secured a historic third term in government, having defeated the opposition People’s National Party in the 2025 general election on Wednesday night (September 3).
Prime Minister Andrew Holness becomes the second man since PJ Patterson to win a third term in Jamaican politics.
Preliminary data from the Electoral Office of Jamaica as at 11:00 pm local time, the JLP dominated in 33 constituencies, managing to hold on to power, while the Mark Golding-led PNP staged a valiant performance but fell just short with 29 seats.
In a general election that pundits anticipated was too close to call, the Electoral Commission of Jamaica (ECJ) advised that voter turnout had risen slightly to 39.3 per cent.
Opposition Leader Mark Golding conceded defeat but was proud of the PNP’s performance and political resurgence after a landslide trouncing in the 2020 polls.
