Japan reaffirmed its solidarity with Jamaica on Wednesday, November 6, delivering emergency relief supplies to support recovery efforts in parishes hardest hit by Hurricane Melissa.
On behalf of the Government and people of Jamaica, Desmond McKenzie, Minister of Local Government and Community Development, and Ambassador Sheila Sealy Monteith, Permanent Secretary and Head of the Jamaican Foreign Service, formally received the aid.

The relief supplies were handed over by Japan’s Ambassador to Jamaica Yasuhiro Atsumi, and Atsushi Nakagawa, Resident Representative of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
The donation included tents, portable jerry cans, sleeping pads and water purifiers.
Ambassador Sealy Monteith joined Minister McKenzie in thanking the Government of Japan, acknowledging its enduring partnership with Jamaica and its consistent support during times of need.
