A wonder goal by Jaheim Rankine propelled Calabar High to a 1-0 win over St Andrew Technical High (STATHS) while Jamaica College, Eltham High and St George’s College became the first schools through to the second round of Manning Cup competition.

Excelsior High registered the biggest win trouncing Pembroke Hall High 15-0.

Ten games were played over the weekend as the teams jostled for the top two positions to advance to the second round. But it was sweet revenge for Calabar who avenged their first-round defeat at the hands of STATHS courtesy of a beautiful long-range strike from Rankine in the 33rd minute. It was a crucial win for Calabar as they assumed the top spot in Zone D by goal difference ahead of STATHS. Both teams are on 16 points.

Haile Selassie High are keeping their slim chances of getting in the top two positions with a 5-0 win over Kingston Technical High to be in third spot on 12 points with three sets of games remaining. Two best third-placed spots will be available, and Haile Selassie could be one of them.

Excelsior High hit 15 past Pembroke Hall and consolidated second spot in Zone F on 13 points from five games.

Jamaica College lead with 16 points from six games after beating Ascot High 5-0 and are through to the second round. Third-placed Bridgeport High are on six points and with three games to play, cannot surpass JC. Ascot also sat on six points but have two games remaining.

Tivoli Gardens whipped Denham Town High 10-0 in the west Kingston derby in Zone E and consolidated the second spot with 18 points from seven games.

Eltham High made it six wins from six games, blanking Dunoon Park Technical 2-0 and lead Zone A with 18 points and are through to the next round. Hydel High whipped Ardenne High 8-0 and remained in second spot on 12 points from five games as Clan Carthy High stayed in third spot on six points from five games.

Holy Trinity High had their first home game at the school in 27 years but were whipped 0-5 by neighbours St George’s College in Zone G. The Light Blues with their sixth win from seven games, lead Zone G with 19 points and cannot be surpassed by both St Catherine High on 13 points and Norman Manley High on four points from five games. Norman Manley defeated Papine High 3-1.
