Guardsman’s Vice President for Product Development, Jevan Brown, embodies this. His bona fides are an exemplar of what the Guardsman Group is all about. It therefore comes as no surprise that in October of this year, the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ) will be inducting its Executive Chairman, Kenny Benjamin, into its Hall of Fame, not just for his contribution to the business sector but for the manner in which he transformed the security business and built one of the most recognised brands in Jamaica.

Jevan Brown is a retired military captain who spent 15 years with the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF). In his last posting, he was the Head of the Military Police responsible for the JDF’s bases across the island.

Remaining in the security field was natural for Captain Jevan Brown. He also had a background in computer science, which he studied at the University of the West Indies. 

Immediately, one gets a sense of the calibre of personnel the Guardsman Group cultivates.

Combining his military background with his training in computer science, he was drawn to the technological side of security, an area that the Guardsman Group is increasingly focused on.

Jevan Brown is spearheading a complete ecosystem for the Guardsman Group.

Hailing from Montego Bay, Jevan Brown has done military courses all over the world and has held commissions in the United States.

He has been with the Guardsman Group now for six years. 

Speaking with Our Today, Jevan Brown observed: “The security services business throughout the world is pivoting towards technology. On that note, I think Jamaica is still fairly behind, and we have some significant work to do. In this regard, the Guardsman Group is the market leader and brings top-of-market solutions and products to clients. We continue to be innovative, work with the best in the industry in First World countries, and introduce technologies never yet seen in Jamaica and the Caribbean.

“In a country like Jamaica that has criminal risk, it is critical that we put the necessary security systems in place to provide full coverage. In terms of security advancements, I believe there should be a pivot more toward video technology and remote video monitoring. It is not just about sensors anymore but more about utilising cameras to provide all the triggers and alerts, verifying what is happening at a location. That is where Guardsman is going now.”

The way Jevan Brown sees it, the future of security has to encompass mobile monitoring, hence Guardsman’s introduction of its solar surveillance towers.

He continued: “At Guardsman, we are not talking about completely doing away with human guards but rather providing them with the tools to make them even more effective. None of these solutions works without any form of human presence. All of these security technologies must be supported by the human element.

“What we can do is reduce the human footprint, but at all times the technology and the manpower have to be integrated to provide a solid ecosystem.”
