
Four-time Suncorp Super Netball Player of the Year Jhaniele Fowler scored 37 goals to lead the West Coast Fever to a 47-41 win over GIANTS in the Suncorp Team Girls Cup at the Parkville Stadium in Melbourne, Australia today (February 25).
Fowler shot at 95 per cent accuracy and got support from Alice Teague-Neeld, who scored six goals and two Suncorp Super Shots.
After being outscored 8-10 by GIANTS in the first quarter, West Coast Fever won the next three quarters 12-9, 13-12, 14-10, respectively to pull off the victory.
Twenty-five turnovers hurt the GIANTS for whom Jo Harten and Sophie Dwyer scored 14 and 17 goals, respectively.
NEW COACH TRIES DIFFERENT COMBINATIONS
Newly appointed head coach Dan Ryan used a number of combinations during the match as he prepares the Fever for the 2022 season of the Suncorp Super Netball League set to begin in March.
Rudi Ellis and Courtney Bruce both spent time at goal keeper and Verity Simmons, Emma Cosh and Chelsea Pitman rotating through Wing Attack.
Bruce, Sunday Aryang and Stacey Francis-Bayman all spent time at goal defence, while Jess Anstiss had stints at centre and wing defence, with Fowler and Teague-Neeld playing full games in the shooting circle.
Fever play their other Pool B opponents, Collingwood and Adelaide, on Saturday before cross-over finals are held for all teams on Sunday.
In other matches on Friday, New South Wales Swifts and Sunshine Coast Lightning played to a 43-43 tie while the Melbourne Vixens outscored the Queensland Firebirds 45-37.
