Merkz, real name Markel Leslie, is quite upbeat with the reception of the EP and the songs featured.
“This EP is about lifestyle and everyday living. Living life to the most because you only have one life to live. It’s just a blessing to be able to share my life and experiences with the fans, and seeing the reaction on the charts is very humbling. Give thanks to all who have been supporting the project,” said Merkz.
Some of the songs on the EP were recorded over a two-year period, while others were recently recorded.
According to Merkz, working with his collaborators was a great experience.
“It was very easy to work with both Feloni19 and Xkappe. They are genuine people and have good work ethics,” he shared.
For Merkz, his interest in music began from an early age when his father, who owned a sound system, would often play music within the household.
“Music began from a young age of growing up in music. My father had a sound from before I was even born so music was like what. It woke you up and put you to bed at night. I also started selecting but I always knew that being a deejay was my goal,” said Merkz.
Merkz has been doing music professionally since 2019. He says he brings talent to the table musically, with punchlines, deep tones, different tones and versatility.
He grew up in Clarendon and attended Denbigh High and later on, Westchester Community College in New York.
Bounty Killer, Vybz Kartel and Buju Banton are among his musical influences.
“For me, the sky is the limit. I’m just putting in the work and trusting the process that the fans will enjoy the music,” said Merkz.
