

Today (April 19) is World Banana Day and in marking the occasion, St Mary’s redoubled their efforts to spread the word on the brain-boosting benefits of the beloved snack, with the students and teachers of John Mills Infant Primary and Junior High School.
In homage to the versatile and convenient snack, excited students and teachers gathered for a Banana Day Breakfast treat featuring bunches of JP ripe bananas and household favourite St Mary’s Banana Chips.

Bananas are beneficial and versatile, and can be used in puddings, muffins, pies, sandwiches, shakes, bread, cakes, and more.
In honour of World Banana Day, which is celebrated annual on the third Wednesday in April, here are five fun facts about banana.
- The oldest fruit cultivated
Interestingly, bananas are the oldest cultivated fruits in the world.

Bananas can be eaten uncooked or cooked and can also be processed or baked.

There are about 1,000 varieties, Gros Michel and Froggy bananas are two of the varieties grown in Jamaica.
