Jon Stewart will return as host of The Daily Show, for special coverage on Monday nights throughout the 2024 election cycle, starting February 12.
Comedy Central made the announcement on Wednesday, January 24, on the company’s website.
After a year-long search for a new host since the departure of Trever Noah in 2022, the network opted to tap into the familiarity of Stewart, who previously hosted for 16 years.
The Daily Show with Jon Stewart won 24 Emmy Awards during his stint as host, which gained popularity for his satirical shots on the eccentricities of American politics, TV news and culture.
Stewart stepped down in 2015 and was replaced by comedian Trevor Noah. The show has not had a permanent host since 2022, when Noah announced he was leaving.
Noah expressed his support through a short post on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“Jon Stewart is the voice of our generation, and we are honored to have him return to Comedy Central’s ‘The Daily Show’ to help us all make sense of the insanity and division roiling the country as we enter the election season,” Chris McCarthy, the president and CEO of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios, said in a statement.
