Kingston College’s sprint hurdler Daniel Clarke, who will be taking up a scholarship to Texas Tech University, says he has no regrets leaving high school one year early.

The 18-year-old Clarke has the world-leading time in the Under-20 category in the 110 hurdles with 13.06 seconds done at Jamaica’s Carifta Games Trials on March 2, 2025.

“It was simply the right decision at the time so that I can transition into the next phase of my life,” Clarke explained. “I don’t have any regrets about leaving KC, but I wouldn’t say I am particularly happy about it either,” he told Our Today.

Clarke will be following the footsteps of former KC hurdlers Shemar Uter and Vashaun Vascianna.

Clarke, who has been at the heart of KC’s four-championship title run from 2022-2025, placed second in the Class One 110 hurdles final and was again second representing Jamaica at the Carifta Games in Trinidad and Tobago, both times behind Calabar’s Shaquane Gordon.

Clarke is the second KC star to be off to the USA, as Brian Kiprop of Kenya also signed for Indian Hills Community College.

Clarke will be pursuing a Bachelor of Science Degree in Kinesiology.
