Kishane Thompson has laid down to gauntlet, running the fastest time in the world this year to win the men’s 100-metre final at the Jamaica National Championships on Friday night (June 29).
The Stephen Francis-coached Thompson, 22, was off to a rocket start, dominating an impressive field to post a world-leading 9.77 seconds as the new national champion.
With his stunning performance, Thompson became the joint ninth-fastest man in history and stands as the fourth-fastest Jamaican behind Usain Bolt, Yohan Blake and Asafa Powell.
Oblique Seville shaved 0.03 seconds off his personal best time to claim second in 9.82s, while Ackeem Blake rounded out the Olympic qualifiers with 9.99s.
