Restaurants Associates Limited, franchise owners of the Krispy Kreme brand, say that after a brief closure due to a fire incident in May, the flagship Waterloo branch is officially set to reopen its doors on Saturday (August 2).

Krispy Kreme Waterloo, which also functions as the brand’s central doughnut production facility, suspended operations on May 31 after a fire resulted in damage to critical equipment.

While no serious injuries were reported, one team member was taken to the hospital as a precaution due to smoke exposure. Since then, the company has worked closely with emergency responders, the local fire department, and safety consultants to complete assessments, repairs, and reinforce fire safety protocols.

“We’re absolutely fired up to reopen and reconnect with our amazing supporters,” said senior brand manager, Tiffany Wiggan. “This unfortunate incident underscored the strength of our brand and the deep connection it holds with our guests, as evidenced by the outpouring of affection across multiple channels. We emerge from this experience stronger and sweeter than ever.”

To mark the occasion, Krispy Kreme will celebrate with a giveaway of 1,000 free doughnuts spanning a number of activities across their locations.

Customers can also look forward to the launch of a bold new flavour, the ‘Ring of Fire’, a fiery-sweet strawberry-lemon and mint creation that pays tribute to the brand’s resilience and the passion of its team. Wiggan shared that the new offering has been crafted especially for the comeback.

The senior brand manager added that the reopening signals the full restoration of doughnut production across Krispy Kreme’s Jamaica network.
