Dozens of wooden stalls, makeshift shacks and shops in and around the downtown market district were demolished by the Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC) on Sunday (January 24).

The demolition exercise, which started about 6:00 am, was carried out by municipal police attached to the KSAMC aided by a strong detachment of police.

The demolition team destroyed stalls on West Street, Princess Street, West Parade and along Spanish Town Road within the vicinity of the Coronation Market.

Vendors were seen hurriedly pulling down their wooden stalls and shacks before the arrival of the municipal police to their various location ín the market district.

The operation has been peaceful thus far without any resistance.
