A very late goal by Raffique Bryan saved reigning champions Portmore United from suffering their second loss of the Jamaica Premier League (JPL) season, as it enabled them to earn a 1-1 draw with Harbour View at the Captain Horace Burrell Centre of Excellence at the University of the West Indies on Saturday (July 31).
Cristojaye Daley scored in the 65th minute to give Harbour View the lead, but Bryan broke their hearts seven minutes into second-half added time as Portmore collected a point from the match. Portmore’s only loss was in the second round when they went down 1-0 to Vere United.
The point allowed Portmore to remain at the top of the points standings with 13 points from six matches as Vere are in second position, with 11 points from five matches.
They are followed by Harbour View on nine points, Mount Pleasant Football Academy on eight, Cavalier on seven and Waterhouse on six.
Both Portmore and Harbour View engaged in a tense and unadventurous first half before the 18-year-old Daley opened the scoring for Harbour View when he scored from outside the penalty area with the side of his foot.
Bryan, however, poked home the equaliser from close range with the last kick of the match as referee Veralton Nembhard gave an extended added time.
