It is said that the best teachers teach from the heart and not the book. Almost everyone has or had a favourite teacher, someone who went above and beyond to encourage and support you because they could see your true potential.

Today, take time to celebrate World Teachers’ Day — a global event launched by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) back in 1994.

In a bid to celebrate teachers and their contribution across the globe, every year October 5 is celebrated as World Teachers’ Day.

This observation marks the anniversary of the adoption of the 1966 UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers.

It sets standards regarding the rights and responsibilities of teachers for their initial preparation, further education, recruitment, employment, and learning conditions.

World Teachers’ Day is an initiative by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), International Labour Organization (ILO), and Education International (EI).

World Teachers’ Day: Significance

The purpose of World Teachers’ Day is to recognise, evaluate, and enhance the status of teachers around the globe.

This day is also viewed as a chance to think about and resolve problems relating to teachers and education.

According to UNESCO, it is a day to celebrate how teachers are transforming education but also to reflect on the support they need to fully deploy their talent and vocation, and to rethink the way ahead for the profession globally.

Every year to in an effort to commemorate World Teachers’ Day, UNESCO and Education International (EI) organise a campaign with a varied topic to promote a better understanding of teachers and their line of work because they are crucial to the growth of students and society.

World Teachers’ Day is of the utmost importance since it is observed to commemorate accomplishments and to consider strategies for overcoming difficulties that the teaching profession faces.

“The transformation of education begins with teachers” is the theme under which World Teachers’ Day 2022 is being celebrated.
