Carib 5 Cinema, operated by Palace Amusement, will be transformed into Barbie World for the local ‘Barbie’ movie premiere event on Tuesday (July 25).

This special event, hosted by job recruitment platform UCA Jamaica in aid of the Jamaica Cancer Society, aims to make a meaningful impact in the fight against breast cancer, with all proceeds from ticket sales generously donated to this esteemed organisation.

A globally-anticipated film, ‘Barbie’ celebrates empowerment, unity and the spirit of authenticity represented by the iconic character, Barbie. The event’s aim is to bring fans of Barbie, from a wide cross-section of generations, as well as corporate entities with a national interest, together in a memorable cinematic experience while making a positive impact on the community.

The ‘pink-tacular’ premiere will also feature a Pink Carpet Cocktail event hosted by sisters Jodi ‘Jinx’ Stewart and Traci ‘Tricky’ Stewart Roman, Yanique ‘Curvy Diva’ and Miss Jamaica World 2022 Shanique Singh.

Speaking to the genesis of this event, organising partner, Yashel Montieth of Brangenic Ltd. stated, “I chose to be an organising partner for this event because Barbie’s iconic presence and the existing marketing around her brand together have made her a symbol of style, empowerment, and the colour pink. As pink is closely associated with breast cancer awareness, I saw a unique opportunity to centre the embracing of our community’s inner Barbie while also supporting a meaningful cause.”

“Through this event, we can celebrate the magic of Barbie, empower our attendees to express their individual style, and give back to the Jamaica Cancer Society, making a positive impact in the fight against cancer,” she continued,.

Michael Leslie, acting JCS executive director, expressed the entity’s gratitude for being chosen as the beneficiary of ticket sales proceeds from the Barbie movie premiere.

He said, “The Jamaica Cancer Society is committed to the fight against breast cancer in Jamaica. We are grateful to all individuals and entities that are dedicated to aiding us in this fight. The society wishes to thank all the sponsors and Intuit Concepts who have selected us to be the recipients of all proceeds from the Barbie movie premiere. We are aware of the numerous charities that exist. Thank you for choosing us and by extension commiting to the fight against breast cancer, the leading cause of cancer related deaths among Jamaican women.”

Event partner CPJ will be hosting international mixologist, Sunny, as special guest mixologist for the event.

Jamaica-born, Sunny, now based in Miami, will be working with CPJ to create globally known specialty cocktails as well as specially curated cocktails for the ‘Barbie’ Pink Carpet Cocktail Event featuring renowned brands like LUC BELAIR, Yellow Tail Pink Moscato, and Sparkling ICE. These include ‘Pink Poodle’, ‘Malibu Beach’ and ‘Dolly 75’ which is a play on the traditional ‘French 75’. Other partners for the ‘Barbie’ Movie Premiere Event include KIG, Your Simple Steps Co., Shikima Hinds, Brangenic Ltd., Gabby Glam, Play Media Event Productions, and Sangria Marketing.

Kellon Williams, a member of the organising team, emphasised the significance of the sponsors’ support for this charitable initiative.

“We are immensely grateful for the generous support of our sponsors, who share our vision of nation-building and promoting empowerment, confidence, and authenticity,” Williams said.

“Their commitment to this cause has made it possible for us to host this meaningful event, where we encourage everyone to embrace the values that Barbie embodies. With their invaluable partnership, we are excited to bring fans together for a truly uplifting experience that will benefit the Jamaica Cancer Society and make screening and prevention of breast cancer more accessible in Jamaica.”
