Magna Motors Dealership Limited, the exclusive distributor of Hyundai vehicles in Jamaica, hosted a ‘Breddrin Link Up’ at its facility at 7 Oxford Road, New Kingston, in celebration of International Men’s Day on November 19.

Highlights of the festive afternoon included numerous competitions, quizzes, giveaways, food, music, games and discussions as Magna Motors’ enthusiastic male customers gathered to partake in the festivities, with the Magna Motors staff and the men’s accompanying family and friends supporting cheering them on.

The event was not short of positive energy, as Etmour Williams, Magna Motors Dealership Limited’s commercial and customer relationship manager, played marshal to many of the day’s proceedings as he was at the forefront of the interactions with the guests throughout.

Speaking on the reason for the event, he stated: “We wanted to let these men know that they are more than customers to us; they are like family and we want to see them win and continue to impact the world in a meaningful way”.

He continued, revealing the need for the brand’s focus on men, saying “Men are very integral to our Jamaican society, but the Magna Motors team recognises that the contributions and sacrifices that they make to take care of their work obligations, as well as their family and friends, sometimes come at a cost to their health. They often neglect their wellbeing”.

Integral to the day’s celebrations was an interactive presentation by Dr Andrei Cooke, who imparted some much-needed knowledge to the men in attendance about some of the most common health matters faced by men in Jamaica and around the world.

Cooke shared some preventative education and seemed to remove the sting of some of the perceptions men face with topics like mental, prostate and lifestyle health, which often see them avoiding medical services and neglecting their health. He educated the men in attendance about the need for early and regular screening, especially for men over 40 years old, as the best tool to stem the tide of prostate cancer – the most commonly diagnosed cancer and number one leading cause of cancer-related deaths among men in Jamaica.

He encouraged the men to pay more attention to their health, make the necessary lifestyle changes to lessen their chances of getting non-communicable diseases and get their check-ups regularly.

The event saw more than 50 males participating, many of whom expressed appreciation for the consideration and recognition from the company.
