Trouble brews for Liverpool, as the defending champions were held to a 0-0 draw with current English Premier League (EPL) leaders Manchester United on Sunday (January 17).

The result stood as a problematic outcome for the Reds, playing against the visiting Devils at Anfield, which has failed to score in the last three matches—tying with a three-game goal drought in March 2005.

Only a win could have gone better for the Manchester Devils, leaving the match unbeaten in their last 16 away games and cushioning a three-point lead in the race for the EPL title.

The match was largely fought in the midfield, with Manchester United showing better chances at goal. On either end of goal, Liverpool’s Alisson Becker was superb, thwarting multiple attempts from Man U. Contrastingly, Spanish custodian David de Gea saw very little action thanks to brilliant defensive support which shut out much of the Liverpool offensive.

Both teams, still having everything to play for, entered the second half with the stalemate intact.

Becker showed up to meet every challenge from the Devils as Manchester United tried unsuccessfully to break the deadlock.

The Ole Gunnar Solskjaer-managed Man U easily had the better chances in the contest but were more than happy to eek a draw that could prove helpful in their quest to wrest the championship from Liverpool this season.

Hovering four points clear of Liverpool, there is no space for complacency at Manchester United, who are just a mere two points ahead of chasers Manchester City and Leicester.
