Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has been given a 15-month suspended sentence by a Greek court, following a legal battle tied to an incident on the island of Mykonos in August 2020.
The England international was originally handed a 21-month and 10-day suspended prison sentence in 2020 after being found guilty of repeated bodily harm, attempted bribery, violence against public employees and insult. His legal team immediately filed an appeal, which under Greek law wiped out the conviction and triggered a full retrial.
That retrial was delayed four times between 2023 and 2025 before finally getting underway in Syros on Wednesday. The court ruled that Maguire was guilty of non-serious assault, resisting arrest and attempted bribery. With the charges deemed less severe, his sentence was reduced to 15 months.
Sources say Maguire denies any wrongdoing and intends to take the matter to the Supreme Court. He has also turned down chances to settle the case outside of court, insisting on fighting to clear his name.
