Medical services company MDLink founded by Dr Che Bowen has secured financing from Dequity Capital to fund the expansion of its operations across the Caribbean and Latin America.

Dequity which is headed by Kadeen Mairs has taken a 25 per cent stake in MDLink which sees the company with a valuation of J$450 million. There are plans afoot to double that valuation over the next 12 to 18 months which will take it to a J$1 billion valuation.

The plan is for MDLink to launch its IPO within the next two years.

MDLink plans to judiciously use Dequity’s funding to bolster its telemedicine and digital health services. MDLink’s CEO, Dr Bowen explained: “The guidance and support from Dequity will enable MDLink to introduce new and innovative healthcare services, ensuring that more individuals can access quality health solutions.”

Founded in 2018, MDLink is looking to bridge the gap between traditional and digital healthcare and in that regard is offering medical services in a non-traditional manner. To date, it has attended to over 70,000 online patients in Jamaica and across the wider Caribbean. It has connected patients and doctors across several Caribbean islands including St Lucia, Bahamas, Barbados, Cayman Islands, Trinidad and the British Virgin Islands.

In July 2022, MDLink acquired Fleet Diagnostic Laboratory, an accredited medical facility, which allows patients to book lab test appointments online, check results and consult with doctors via the MDLink.

Dequity Capital Management sees a big future for medical services operators in Jamaica and, to that end, has grown its healthcare portfolio which already includes Royale Medical Hospital in Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland and Winchester Medical in Kingston.

Speaking with Our Today, Dequity’s CEO Kadeen Mairs said: “We are in the physical space with two hospitals. Telemedicine allows everybody to access healthcare immediately saving time, energy and money. It is the way of the future. We are looking to bring both the traditional healthcare solutions and digital solutions together to work in a seamless fashion. MDLink is the only telemedicine/digital healthcare operation of its size in the Caribbean.
