Medical supplies company Medical Disposables & Supplies (MDS) has won the exclusive distributor for the Velina brand of paper products in Jamaica.

These products include bathroom tissue, domestic paper towels and napkins. Velina, which is a locally manufactured brand of household products, has been a part of the paper industry for 12 years, offering quality, affordable, Jamaican-made paper products.

These products are available through various retail channels islandwide. This new distributorship deal will boost MDS portfolio of products while at the same time increasing its revenue stream.

MDS is one of the fastest-growing and well-recognised healthcare distribution companies in Jamaica and is listed on the Jamaican stock market.

For the three months ended December 2024, MDS returned total sales of J$900.47 million, which represents a reduction of 4.3 per cent or J$40.07 million but a 3.9 per cent or J$33.52 million improvement on the second quarter results.

The downturn in sales is attributable to the pharmaceutical and consumer divisions as well as its subsidiary Cornwall Enterprises, which did not win as many government contracts as it did in 2022.

The results for the pharmaceutical and consumer divisions continue to be affected by the discontinuation of some products that were in the portfolio in the previous year.
