InZOI, the upcoming life simulation game by South Korean video game company KRAFTON Inc, is set for early release by late 2024 and is already making waves in the gaming community.

KRAFTON Inc, known for publishing the shooter game Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG), is currently developing InZOI. The free demo of InZOI’s character studio was available on Steam from August 21 to August 26.

The game uses high-quality graphics with Unreal Engine 5, which supports high-resolution textures and models, making the characters and environment more realistic.

InZOI’s development began in early 2023 and aims to be a life simulation game with depth and player involvement. The game already has impressive beta features like capturing Zoi’s (which are the in-game characters) facial expressions by using Unreal Engine 5’s Live Link Face app.

Pushing the capabilities of other life-sim games available, you can also customise the colour of almost all the clothes in-game and use a generative AI tool to create custom textures or transform photos into textures to layer onto said items.

At a special showcase in Amsterdam, producer and director of InZOI, Hyungjun Kim said, “Our goal with inZOI is to create a world where creativity knows no bounds, and where every choice leads to new and unexpected experiences.”

“We want players to enjoy not only the joy of crafting their ideal lives but also the thrill of navigating a dynamic, evolving world.”

More advanced AI algorithms will be used to drive character behaviour, mimicking real-life interactions for the Zois.

Even though it’s still in development, early access is available to some content creators and InZoi has already been compared to the highly-regarded Maxis/EA The Sims franchise. Fans are already suggesting that other life-simulation games might intensify the competition, potentially prompting The Sims to enhance its game to retain its large player base.

However, other life simulator games deemed as ‘competitors’ to The Sims franchise have yet to match the game’s success, even being cancelled early in production with games like ‘Paralives’ and ‘Life by You’.

Only time can tell if InZoi will deliver on its features and remain victorious in its ambitious pursuits.
