Jamaican deejay Blak Ryno continues to turn heads and spark questions on social media for his lighter-than-usual skin tone, but the dancehall act insists he is happy.

Ryno, responding to criticisms after he became a trending topic over the weekend, said the decision was his and that skin bleaching is commonplace.

“Mi a live my life for me, not for the crowd. Mi don’t want nobody feel like them have the right fi tell me what to do with my self, people bleach every [day]. You’ll be alright,” declared Ryno, born Romaine Anderson, in a post on Instagram.

The 36-year-old Bike Back dancehall artiste, who emerged from a musical hiatus to promote his latest single, Pedestal, sparked many conversations on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook as Jamaicans speculated on whether he was bleaching.

The singjay has seemingly re-launched his career from scratch, starting over from his near stardom with the Vybz Kartel’s Gaza Empire with a curated Instagram page showing off his lighter skin to over 47,000 followers.

Not everyone is feeling the new Blak Ryno, asking the artiste to ease up on the skin lightening products.
