Consulate in New York ships over 1,400 computer devices to island

More computer devices are coming for needy Jamaican students to aid with their online and hybrid education.

The computer devices are coming from the Consulate General of Jamaica in New York, which, on June 17, shipped off over 1,400 computer devices to Jamaica. The donation is being made in support of the Government of Jamaica ‘One Device Per Child’ initiative.

This represents the fourth shipment of tablets and computers donated by the consulate. Last Friday’s shipment now brings the total number of devices donated by the New York Consulate to 4,600 – a value of US$539,646.80.

FIFTH SHIPMENT TO BE DISPATCHED IN WEEKS

Consul General Alsion Roach-Wilson explains that “empowering our students and helping them realize their full potential continues to feature prominently on the agenda of the Consulate General of Jamaica, New York”.

She adds that “this initiative would not have been possible without the support of our corporate sponsors our #dearfriendsofJamaica and our #JamaicanDiaspora, who have given generously to ensure that this vision of ‘leaving no Jamaican student behind’, is a reality”.

Roach-Wilson says plans are already in progress to dispatch the fifth shipment within the next three weeks.
