Jamaica’s Mount Pleasant FA all but sewed up a spot in the final of the CONCACAF Caribbean Cup with a resounding 5-1, first-leg win over Defence Force of Trinidad and Tobago at the Hasely Crawford Stadium on Wednesday.

National Striker Warner Brown, making a return to competitive action, set the tone early, scoring in the fifth minute as Mount Pleasant silenced the home crowd.

Raheem Edwards then notched a double in the 15th and 57th minutes and basically put the game out of the reach of Defence Force.

It was his fourth and fifth goals of the campaign and took him atop the goalscoring chart with five goals, two more than Rivaldo Correa of Cibao FC.

Substitute Shaquille Bradford made it 4-0 in the 85th minute before Kimoni Bailey put the icing on the cake, netting in the 90+3, making it 5-0.

But Defence Force responded with an even later goal as Kaihim Thomas pulled one back in the 90+7 minute.

The return leg is set for the National Stadium in Kingston, with Mount Pleasant well on their way to their first CONCACAF Caribbean Cup final.

Paul Christie, Mount Pleasant’s sporting director, told Our Today that the job is not done.

“This is why we play the game, as crazier things have happened in football. The job is not done, there is nothing to get complacent or lackadaisical about because at the end we let them back in the game,” said Christie. “We have to stay focused and come next week, we get the job done. But it’s a good start today. We just need to complete it.”
