France’s Corentin Moutet has been fined $40,000 after a profanity-filled live interview at Queen’s left him with almost no prize money from the tournament.

The 27-year-old, who earned about £32,800 for reaching the second round, was hit with the maximum penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct by the ATP Tour and has already lodged an appeal.

The incident came after his first-round win over compatriot Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, when Moutet repeatedly used offensive language during an on-court interview. The exchange escalated after he was asked to avoid repeating a word, but he continued regardless before the broadcast was cut short. Presenter Clare Balding later apologised for the language used on air.

Moutet, who later lost in the last 16 to Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, said on social media that he was joking and did not intend to offend anyone.

It is not his first disciplinary issue, with past punishments including a default in 2022 and a suspension of financial support from the French Tennis Federation over behaviour concerns.
