Repairs are in full swing at Munro College following the devastating impact of Hurricane Beryl, which ravaged the school’s infrastructure.
To date, an impressive $100 million has already been invested in restoring the campus to its former glory.
“Munro College in St Elizabeth was one of the worst-affected schools in Jamaica following Hurricane Beryl. Principal Dr Mark Smith says preliminary damage estimates are at about $300 million with $100 million already expended in the ongoing repair process,” Prime Minister Andrew Holness wrote on his social media.

Munro College Principal Mark Smith noted that the additional $200 million will go toward the “significant amount of work left to be done.”
“We have been very fortunate to have the Ministry of Education and our Munro College Old Boys Association, along with other donors in corporate society and other donors,” said Smith.
He lauded the Ministry of Education for their swift response with their procurement process, ensuring that repairs could have started post-haste.
Smith disclaimed that the school will not be opened on the September 2nd, since repairs will not be finished by then. Munro is scheduled to be opened on Monday, September 9th.
