Award-winning Nigerian singer Fave gets the dancefloor busy with her latest single ‘Cold Outside‘.

The bouncy club banger, produced by Dre Skull, was inspired by a beat that Fave heard.

“Dre Skull and I were in the studio earlier this year. I was recording songs and just trying to get ready for my album and ‘Cold Outside‘ was among the first songs that we created when we found ourselves in the studio alone without other artists there. And it was just a bang on arrival once I hit the beat, I just knew that what we would create would be fire because I love to lean into that side of me that appreciates dancehall music and Dre Skull’s call is very dancehall,” Fave explained.

She further added, “I think when you hear that type of beats, you immediately think of the club and getting crazy in the club. I just remember saying “is it cold outside, is it cold outside because here, the whole club is hot hot hot” and we went from there. It just gave the club energy and I leaned into that.”

Fave, who collaborated with dancehall artiste Masicka on the track ‘Fight For Us‘ (featured on Masicka’s ‘Generation of Kings‘ album), was nominated in the 2022 All African Music Awards in three categories including Best African in African Reggae/Dancehall.

She spoke about working with Grammy-nominated dancehall producer Dre Skull.

“Working with Dre is awesome. I love that we are able to pick each other’s brains at any time in the session.  He’s very open to trying new things and I’m very open to trying new things. Sometimes when I am singing, Dre shares his opinion and makes a suggestion of, maybe take this word out or how would it sound if you do it like this? He has such a good ear for music. I have my intuitions as well, so when he has his suggestions and I have my ideas and they clash, it always leaves me in a dilemma because the two sides are very good, like both sides make so much sense. So, I try to weigh my options and pick the better one which is always such a dilemma, like a conundrum in my head.  But I love working with a producer who is about that life of making music, you know, the whole process of music, the whole composition and Dre’s in it,” said Fave.

Fave, who studied for a law degree in south-western Nigeria, has to date released two EPs, 2022’s Riddim 5 and 2024’s Dutty Love.

In 2023, she collaborated with Davido on the track ‘Kante’, which is featured on his Grammy-nominated album ‘Timeless‘, which has to date racked up more than 56 million views on YouTube.

The official visualiser for her 2021 hit song ‘Baby Riddim‘, has received more than 25 million views.
