Northampton Town have dismissed manager Kevin Nolan after a long stretch of disappointing results left the club struggling near the bottom of League One.

The Cobblers have managed just one win in their last 16 league matches and currently sit 23rd in the table, three points from safety. Goals have been hard to come by, with the team scoring only 31 times in 36 games, which is the second-lowest return in the division.

Nolan’s final match in charge ended in another setback as Northampton fell 1-0 to AFC Wimbledon on Sunday without finding the net.

Technical director Colin Calderwood will take over on an interim basis, with former Northampton boss Ian Sampson assisting him as the club looks for a turnaround.

The decision to move on from Nolan came on the 129th anniversary of Northampton Town’s formation. The club also becomes the 10th out of 24 teams in League One to change managers this season.
