Jamaica’s Orland Bennett and Tyler Mason won silver and bronze in the Men’s 110m hurdles, taking the island’s medal tally to five at the World Athletics Championship in Japan.

It was another brilliant day for Jamaica as both athletes ran their lifetime best to put their country on the podium as Bennett was second in 13.08 and Mason took third in 13.12.

American Cordell Tinch put his early inept performances behind with a perfect run, winning gold in 12.99.

But after losing Olympic champion Hansle Parchment, who failed to make the Jamaican team and then the country’s top hurdler Rasheed Broadbell through injury, things were looking bleak for Jamaica.

So it was a magnanimous achievement for Jamaica to have both Bennett and Mason on the podium.

But once the championship started, it was clear that both Bennett and Mason were in contention as they looked superb through the rounds.

Not to be outdone, 20-year-old Demario Prince narrowly missed a spot in the final finishing third in Semi-final 3 in 13.22 behind eventual winner Tinch with 13.16, which was the second fastest heading into the final.

Bennett had won Semi-final 1 in 13.27 while Mason took Semi-final 3 in a personal best 13.12, the same time he ran in the final.

Jamaica have taken its medal tally to five inclusive of one gold, three silver and a bronze, to be fifth in the medal table.

The Americans, with eight medals consisting of six gold, lead the table ahead of Kenya with three gold in their five medals.
