Jamaica’s Natoya Goule led from start to finish to win Heat Two of the women’s 800 metres at the Tokyo Olympics Games Friday morning (July 30) (Thursday night Jamaica time).
Starting the race in lane one, the Jamaican sped to the front at the cut in and completed the first lap in a fairly quick 59.83 seconds. Goule maintained a good pace for the rest of the race to win in 1:59.83 minutes.
Noelle Yarigo of Benin finished second in a season-best of 2:00.11 minutes with Hedda Hynne ending third in 2:00.76 to complete the three automatic qualifiers from the heat to advance to the semi-finals.
The top three of each of the six heats and the next six best times, progress to the semi-finals on Saturday.
Reacting to her decisive win, Goule wrote on Twitter after the race, “Thank you heavenly father for allowing me to finish healthy…ready for what’s next!!!!”
