Jamaica’s prospects for the men’s 400 metres hurdles ended in the semi-finals on Sunday (August 1), with Jaheel Hyde clobbering the eighth hurdle and crashing out after both Kemar Mowatt and Shawn Rowe had earlier failed to progress to the final of the Tokyo Olympic Games.

Mowatt and Rowe both ran in lane nine of semi-finals one and two respectively didn’t offer much during the race to finish out of the frame and out of the event.

Hyde, on the other hand, went out hard at the start and even although he clipped the first hurdle, still lead up the eighth at the top of the homestretch, but hit the top of the hurdle and got entangled to fall to the ground and out of contention for a spot in the final.

He, however, got up and jogged to the finish line to record a time of 1:27.38 minutes.

The semi-finals was won by Kevin McMaster of the British Virgin Islands in 48.26 seconds with Rasmus Magi of Estonia getting second in a national record of 48.36 and David Kendziera of the United States of America (USA) third in 48.67.
