Ozempic users are complaining about how the type 2 diabetes treatment drug is also being used for weight loss, causing people to lose volume in their breasts — a phenomenon called “Ozempic breasts”.

Users of the drug, and a similar one called Wegovy will find their breasts may have lost a substantial amount of volume with loose, sagging skin; significantly more than they would with normal ageing.

Ozemepic has gained popularity as a weight loss supplement for those who want assistance in that area, but are not necessarily suffering from type 2 diabetes. Celebs like Oprah, Amy Schumer, Sharon Obsourne, Tracy Morgan, and many more, have confessed to using Ozempic and other diabetes medications to lose weight.

“Ozempic Breasts”

“Plastic Surgeons are seeing a huge uptick in business related to excess skin after weight loss. This isn’t the result of traditional diets or even bariatric surgery,  but a wave brought on by the successes of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) medications like Ozempic,” according to Graham Plastic Surgery.

It is important to note that Ozempic does not inherently cause saggy skin or breasts, but may result in the sagging due to the speed at which weight loss occurs. Breast tissue mainly consists of fat, and so it for this reason that the drug largely affects the look, shape and feel of them after weight loss.

So, is losing the weight worth losing the volume and firmness of your breasts?

Epic Research’s electronic medical records reveal that by the end of 2023, over five million Americans were expected to be on weight loss medication like Ozempic.

How to fix the sagging

Breast Lift

A breast lift, also known as mastopexy, is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin and tightens loose tissue, resulting in a more youthful appearance. This surgery may cost in the hundreds of thousands to be done.

Exercise

Exercise cannot firm breast tissue; however, there are some exercises to improve chest muscle that may assist with toning the chest area such as push-ups, chest presses, planks and dumbbell chest presses, among others.

Lower your dosage

Lowering the amount of Ozempic you take may slow down how fast the weight falls off, giving your skin a chance to adjust.

Loose skin after rapid weight loss is to be expected since rapid weight loss causes fast-paced shrinkage of fat cells and slowing of the skin tightening process.

Since Ozempic is not a natural weight loss method like diet or exercise, it is important to be mindful that side effects are not limited to potentially saggy breasts. A person taking Ozempic may experience swelling, redness, itching at the injection site, tiredness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, or constipation.
