After a tough 128–122 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday (October 24), the New Orleans Pelicans wasted no time shaking things up.

The team added veteran big man DeAndre Jordan on a one-year, US$3.6 million deal.

Jordan, now entering his 18th NBA season, joins the Pelicans after three years with the Denver Nuggets, where he earned a ring in 2023.

Known for his early dominance with the Lob City Clippers after being drafted in 2008, the 37-year-old centre now steps into a new chapter this time as a seasoned mentor for a young team led by Zion Williamson.

Last season, Jordan averaged 3.7 points, 5.1 rebounds, and shot 65 per cent from the floor in just over 12 minutes a game. The Pelicans hope his presence in the locker room and his steady hand on the floor will help guide their push to exceed expectations this season.
