Jamaican industry and the motoring public will enjoy modest savings this week, as State-owned refinery, Petrojam, effects sweeping price cuts at the pumps effective midnight Thursday (August 14).
The refinery, in its closely watched petroleum product price index, slashed J$1.62 off 87-octane gasolene to open at an introductory price of J$159.28 per litre.
It is the biggest cost reduction measure at the pumps since the week of May 22, when 87-octane started at a baseline of J$159.07 per litre.
In a sharp reversal from last week, the price cuts were consistent across Petrojam’s fuel index, which was most pronounced for kerosene and heavy fuel oils as well as automotive diesel and its ultra-low-sulphur counterpart, each falling J$3.06 respectively.
It is expected that retailers will add their respective mark-ups to the announced prices.
