The Detroit Pistons kept their hot streak rolling Monday night, outlasting the Indiana Pacers 122-117 and tying a franchise record with their 13th straight win.
The last time a Pistons team hit this level, it was the 1990 group led by Isiah Thomas and Joe Dumars and the 2004 squad powered by Chauncey Billups and Ben Wallace, both teams that ended their seasons with trophies.
This time around, it’s Cade Cunningham and Jalen Duren driving the surge. Detroit now sits at 15-2, a far cry from the rough 3-36 beginning they endured two seasons ago. Against Indiana, Cunningham delivered 24 points, 11 rebounds and six assists, while Duren chipped in 17 points and 12 boards.
Detroit’s turnaround has been fueled by rising young talent and the steady hand of coach JB Bickerstaff. Still, the Pistons nearly let this one slip away, watching an 18-point cushion shrink as the Pacers clawed back late.
Even so, the win sets up a chance for history. On Wednesday, in an NBA Cup matchup against the Boston Celtics, Detroit can claim the longest winning run the franchise has ever seen.
