Preliminary results published by the Electoral Commission of Jamaica
The People’s National Party’s (PNP) Yvonne Shaw will take control of the Morant Bay division following today’s by-election.
Shaw amassed 2096 votes to secure victory, beating the Jamaica Labour Party’s Winston Downie, who secured 1978 votes.
The overall voter turnout for the division was 37 per cent. Some 11,009 voters were eligible to vote.
The Electoral Commission of Jamaica says these are preliminary results. The official results will be published after the final count is done by the returning officer.
