
A police officer has been charged with murder and five counts of wounding with intent following an incident in Accompong Town, St Elizabeth, in January 2022.
32-year-old Lakarie Barrett, a police officer from Franklin Town, Kingston, was charged with the murder of 53-year-old Lloyd Davis, a farmer from Bethsalem in the parish.
Reports from the Black River Police are that about 9:30 pm, Barrett was at an event in the area when a fight developed between two men. Barrett intervened, however, he was attacked by a group of people.
It is alleged that Barrett opened gunfire at the crowd killing Davis and injuring five other people.
An investigation commenced, and Barrett was subsequently charged.
His court date has not yet been finalized.
