An 18th birthday milestone carries great significance.

It’s the mark of legal adulthood for teenagers often marked by major celebrations for the life already lived and what is to come. Popeyes quick service restaurant is no different and will share “18 Years of Love that Chicken” with customers on Monday (July 18).

Eighteen for Popeyes Jamaica heralds several positives.

Starting in 2004 with its flagship store in Kingston, there are now 14 across the island including Kingston and St Andrew, St Catherine, Mandeville (Manchester), Montego Bay (St James), Clarendon and Westmoreland and there are more to come.

Of course, with a 50-year-old US parent, the local operations have had the benefit of five decades of experience at delighting customers with their traditional southern fried chicken and Cajun flavours.

“We’ve learnt a lot in 18 years”, says Sabrena McDonald Radcliffe, head of quick service restaurant sales and marketing at Restaurant Associates Ltd.—franchise holders in Jamaica and the Caribbean for Popeyes and sister brands Burger King and Little Caesar’s Pizza.

“Jamaicans are very particular about their food, especially fried chicken. We all grew up with grandma or mom’s fried chicken being the star of the Sunday dinner table and loved it.  Our customers tell us that Popeyes reminds them of that well-seasoned home-style goodness, good to the bone and happy times with family and friends,” McDonald Radcliffe explanded.

“Popeyes serves up traditional fried chicken Louisiana style and here in Jamaica, we have chosen from an extensive range of sides- mashed potatoes with gravy, coleslaw, fish, and chicken sandwiches – which appeal to our palettes.  It has worked well over the years helping us to expand the franchise to almost every parish including three new shops opened just this year.  We are very grateful to Jamaica for the warm welcome”.

Meanwhile, Oshane Thoms, brand manager for Popeyes is very enthusiastic about a range of giveaways to mark Popeyes at 18.

“On July 18, we will be going all out to say thanks to our customers for helping us to successfully reach this milestone.  We will be having BOGO half off on 15-piece and three-piece chicken combos because 15 plus three equals 18. We will also be giving away branded items and a sweet treat of chocolate beignets to customers throughout the day,” he explained.

The love for Popeyes customers continues beyond one day, as customers will have a chance to be one of three weekly winners of $100,000 in the Popeyes 100K Giveaway between July 13 and August 29.

There will be 18 winners over six weeks. The qualifying criterion is the purchase of a five-piece chicken combo and submission of entries at popeyes100kgiveaway.com.
