The three Dinthill Technical High School players seen in a viral video attacking a referee during a DaCosta Cup football match last Saturday were severely punished by Principal Anthony Garwood.

Garwood — himself a former FIFA assistant referee — banned Maalick Whyte from playing for the rest of the season after he was seen shoving the referee. He also picked up a five-day suspension and is set to return to school at the end of September.

In a letter addressed to the Dinthill staff members on Monday, September 23, Garwood also referred Whyte, Shamair Hutchinson and Tirafah Bryan to the Dispute Resolution Foundation.

Hutchinson was suspended from school for three days for gross misconduct on the field of play after the game and should return to school on September 27. He awaits the InterSecondary Schools Association (ISSA) hearing on the incident.

Bryan, who was also suspended for three days for gross misconduct, was referred to counselling sessions after returning from suspension on September 27.

The letter concluded that the three players should not be on the school compound during the suspension period.
