A probe has been launched into the death of 16-year-old Jahmari Reid, who is believed to have been killed by a shark at a fishing beach in Trelawny.
It is understood that Reid was last seen on Monday (August 26) around 6 am when he left home alone to go spearfishing.
The body of the teenager — with what appear to be shark bites — was reportedly later seen afloat in the water on Tuesday morning (August 27) by fishermen. Reid’s head and left hand were reportedly bitten off.
His body was fished from the water and brought to the morgue.
The 16-year-old is suspected to have been attacked by a tiger shark, which was reportedly spotted by divers shortly after his body was recovered.
Reid was a student at the William Knibb Memorial High School.
Tiger sharks are common in tropical and temperate waters, especially around central Pacific islands. They are considered to be one of the most dangerous shark species, accounting for a large share of fatal shark attacks.
