Grammy nominated reggae artiste Protoje has returned from the ‘Hills’ with a brand new single and accompanying music video, his first solo project in over a year.

Titled Hills, the track is said to be the artiste’s lead single for his upcoming sixth album this summer, following 2020’s In Search Of Lost Time.

Hills, an ode to peace and nature, chronicles his life over the past two years.

“This song narrates what the last two years have been like for me, living in the mountains while the world was on lockdown,” Protoje shared.

He continued: “Connecting with the simplicity that exists here and being inspired with what I see surrounding me. With the release of this single it’s like… I’ve been away for a little while, but here’s what I’ve been up to.”

In explaining the sound of the track, which has an almost rap-like feel, unlike traditional reggae records, Protoje said: “We are much more experimental than our predecessors.”

The Samo-directed music video sees two tourists in Jamaica trying to find the singer. Asking for directions from locals, the pair make their way up to Protoje’s retreat where, throughout the video, viewers witness him enjoying his time in the hills.

However, as soon a the pair arrive, the Rasta Love hitmaker has already taken off in a helicopter.

The accompanying music video, which was released today (April 21), has been met with much delight from fans.

The star is set to tour Europe and North America this summer, where he will make appearances at the Reggae Rise Up Festival, Cali Roots Festival, Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival and Roots Picnic Music Festival.
