Afghanistan kept their very slim World Cup hopes intact with an amazing five-wicket win over the United Arab Emirates.

Rashid Khan claimed his 700th T20 after UAE batter Muhammad Arfan accidentally clipped the stumps while attempting a reverse sweep.

Rashid finished with figures of 1-24, while Azmatullah Omarzai stole the show with 4-15 to restrict the UAE to 160-9 at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Sohaib Khan top-scored for the visitors with a 48-ball 68, supported by 40 from Alishan Sharafu, but Afghanistan’s chase was anchored by Ibrahim Zadran’s 53 off 21 balls and Omarzai’s unbeaten 40 off 21 deliveries, guiding the team to victory with four balls to spare.

The win earns Afghanistan their first points in Group D, but they face a must-win showdown against New Zealand, needing to surpass the Black Caps and UAE on net run rate to advance.
