Reggae artiste and Johnnie Walker brand ambassador Romain Virgo continues to make his mark in reggae music with his album The Gentle Man being shortlisted for Grammy consideration, a prestigious recognition adding to his successful ‘The Gentle Man’ tour and the birth of his first son in October.
“It really means a lot for The Gentle Man to be among the 75 albums up for Grammy consideration. I’ve been in the industry for over a decade, trying to represent the essence of reggae music and what it should really feel like. If we receive this Grammy nomination, it would be proof to myself and my team that all the hard work we put in over the years was truly worth it. It would also motivate the ones who paved the way for us and the upcoming creators to know that the genre is still alive and can only get better,” Virgo shared.

After touring across Jamaica, Europe, and the US, ‘The Gentle Man’ tour, which began in Jamaica in March and concluded in New York in late August, marked Virgo’s triumphant return to live performances after years of limited shows. “It’s very refreshing to be back on the road touring again. This tour boosts my confidence for the years ahead,” he said.
Virgo’s tour established him as a leading modern reggae artiste, performing to sold-out crowds in Brooklyn and headlining major festivals like Rototom and SummerJam. Critic Pat Meschino hailed his album, The Gentle Man, as one of the best of 2024, keeping reggae’s legacy alive.
As a Johnnie Walker brand ambassador, Virgo embodies the brand’s mantra of “Keep Walking,” which aligns with his journey in the music industry. His music, celebrated for its healing power and emotional depth, has elevated him to hero status in the eyes of many fans. “I’ve never seen this wave of support for my albums. It’s proof that this is undoubtedly a powerful body of work. This album reflects my personal and musical journey. I’ve spent years searching for my sound and identity, and this project proves I’ve found it,” said Virgo.
Virgo’s connection with his fans has never been stronger, with the tour’s Jamaica leg standing
out as a particular highlight. “The tour was super special—doing three back-to-back shows and
receiving an overwhelming level of support in every location, especially the added fourth show,
the grand finale in Kingston.”

In August, Virgo was also honoured with the Artiste of the Year—Male (Reggae) award at the Caribbean Music Awards and featured on the cover of Riddim Magazine’s September 2024 edition, further solidifying his contributions to Jamaican culture. “Receiving awards is more than just about the music—it’s about being seen and heard for the work we’ve been doing. It’s motivation to keep going and ensure that the genre continues to thrive,” he said.
Now, he reflects on his artistic achievements while celebrating a profoundly personal milestone—the birth of his first son in October, making him a father of three. Fatherhood, like his music, has been transformative. “When my daughters were born, it brought a new focus, knowing I’m living for more than myself. Now, with my son, I’m reliving that all over again, and I believe my creativity can only improve from here.”
So, as he balances family life with his musical ambitions, Virgo continues to stand as an example
for the next generation.
Reflecting on his career, his role as a father, and the possibility of a Grammy nomination, Virgo
hopes to remain an inspiring figure. “I would hope that my life as a father and a musician will
remain positive and powerful enough to make the next generation realise that standing on
integrity in all aspects of life matters most after all is said and done,” he noted.
