Rudolph Speid, sporting director of Caribbean club champion Cavalier SC, said they brought Pele to Jamaica in the 1970s and they have no fear facing Inter Miami FC and Lionel Messi in the 2025 CONCACAF Champions Cup over two legs, concluding in Kingston.

Messi—regarded as the best player of all time—led his Inter Miami to a 4-1 aggregate win over Sporting Kansas City in the Major League Soccer (MLS) and will play Cavalier home and away.

Messi scored two goals, one in each leg as Inter Miami booked their dates with the Jamaican champion in the first leg in Florida on March 6th and March 13 more likely at Sabina Park with the National Stadium under repairs.

“Tickets are already on sale and you need to go and get an early bird ticket because if the great one comes, clearly the price will rise. Right now, be an economist and get an early bird ticket,” said Speid, who is an accountant.

But Inter Miami, part-owned by British footballing great David Beckham and coached by Javier Mascherano, is far from a one-man team.

There is the prolific Uruguayan forward Luiz Suarez of Liverpool and Barcelona; Sergio Busquets of Spain and Barcelona and Jordi Alba of Spain blending with some talented youngsters.

“It’s a dream for our players to play that they want to play against that great man (Messi),” said Speid.

“One thing I know these players want to win once they touch the field regardless of who we play and I expect that to continue,” he was quoted as saying.
