Jamaica is poised to host a historic boxing event that promises to ignite the spirits of fight enthusiasts across the Caribbean and beyond.

Donovan ‘Razor’ Ruddock, the Jamaican-Canadian boxing legend, is set to headline the thrilling spectacle dubbed as “Rumble in the Sun”. The event is scheduled to take place at the National Indoor Sports Centre on Saturday, November 11, marking a momentous occasion for boxing fans in Jamaica.

Two-time heavyweight champion, Donovan ‘Razor’ Ruddock, will lace up his gloves to face the formidable James ‘Lights Out’ Toney.

The media launch for the event recently took place at the AC Hotel by Marriott in Kingston, where Ruddock, the CEO of Red Ground Productions, Kleopatra Ruddock, and senior members of the Jamaica Boxing Association, President Stephen Jones and General Secretary Leroy Brown, fielded questions from the press.

Kleopatra Ruddock, the CEO of Red Ground Productions, expressed excitement about hosting this remarkable event in Jamaica. She highlighted that her father, Donovan Ruddock, is passionate about supporting the local boxing scene and nurturing young talent. She said, “We are thrilled to bring this event to Jamaica. My father has always been committed to uplifting young talent and providing them with a platform to showcase their skills at Rumble in the Sun.”

She extended her gratitude to the Jamaica Boxing Association and the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment, and Sport for endorsing the event, with hopes that this will encourage more high-profile boxing events to consider Jamaica as a destination.

“We haven’t witnessed a fight of this magnitude in Jamaica in over 50 years. We aim to provide an unforgettable bout for the fans and support the local boxing community by featuring local talent in the undercard fights,” she continued.

Donovan ‘Razor’ Ruddock, speaking at the media launch, said, “I am an artist, like Muhammad Ali, like Bob Marley, like Bruce Lee. I get better with time. I am delighted to fulfill my dream of fighting in my homeland. I promise that ‘Lights Out’ Toney will need to bring his A-game because I won’t disappoint,” he declared.

‘Rumble in the Sun’ is not just about the marquee match-up between Ruddock and Toney; it also features a series of undercard fights that will provide aspiring fighters from local gyms with the opportunity to gain valuable ring experience.

Leroy Brown, the general secretary of the Jamaica Boxing Association, underlined the significance of having a fighter of Ruddock’s caliber host a fight in Jamaica.

“When you have a fighter like Razor Ruddock hosting a fight in Jamaica, it definitely sparks interest and excitement, especially among the young boxers,” said Brown.

The undercard fights will showcase local boxing talent, including Jermain Richard, Jermaine Brown, and Richard ‘Frog’ Holmes, promising an action-packed evening for fight aficionados.

The event will be broadcast globally on the sports and entertainment digital platform FITE by Triller, available through pay-per-view, cable, and satellite networks.
