Belarusian star Aryna Sabalenka ended her 2025 season by winning four titles, which is the most on the WTA Tour, including defending her US Open crown against Amanda Anisimova to claim her fourth Grand Slam singles title.
The-27-year-old appeared in a tour leading nine finals, falling only to Madison Keys at the Australian Open in January and Coco Gauff at the French Open in June, while also claiming titles at the Brisbane International, Miami Open, and Madrid Open.
Sabalenka dominated the rankings all year, finishing as world number one for a second straight season and becoming the first player since Serena Williams in 2015 to surpass 12,000 WTA points. She ended the season with an impressive 63-12 record and earned a record £11 million in prize money, capturing nearly 80% of votes from international tennis media.
On 28 December, she will take on 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition. Other award winners included Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic, 28, who returned after a 13-month maternity break to claim comeback player of the year. Canada’s 19-year-old Victoria Mboko was named newcomer of the year after climbing from outside the top 300 to world number 18.
Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend earned doubles team of the year after winning their second Grand Slam together, while Anisimova, with five finals appearances, was named most improved player.
In men’s tennis, Carlos Alcaraz swept three awards at the ATP year-end ceremony, including year-end number one, and Jannik Sinner was voted fans’ favourite for the third time.
