Last Thursday (January 30), Sagicor Bank Jamaica hosted its corporate mingle at the Rock Hotel in downtown Kingston.

It was well attended by clients and guests.

The decor was most impressive.

Sagicor Bank Jamaica’s CEO Chorvelle Johnson Cunningham has put in impressive performances since she arrived from Proven seven years ago, growing profits year-on-year for the last three years.

In fact, she celebrated her seventh anniversary with Sagicor on the night of the corporate mingle.

Well done Chorvelle! Big up!

For 2025, Johnson Cunningham and her team will be making a concerted effort to go on the road and engage with clients wherever they are. Her team will not be sitting in plush offices getting fat and pushing paper.

Below is her full address:

“Good evening, everyone,

It’s a true pleasure to welcome you to another staging of Sagicor Bank’s ‘On the ROKS’ Corporate Mingle. It’s great to be back together in this way, and I am so happy you are all here. This evening, we celebrate not only our valued partners but also the opportunities ahead as we continue working together to drive growth and success.

Before I get into my remarks, let me extend apologies on behalf of our president and CEO, my boss, Chris Zacca, who I know really wanted to be here, but is unavoidably absent.

Ladies and gentlemen, having this event in January is especially fitting, as it is the perfect moment to reflect on the wins of 2024 and set our sights on even greater achievements in 2025. Last year, we remained committed to delivering the best products and services, and that commitment continues to shape the goals we set for the year ahead. In 2024, we introduced innovative solutions designed to support and empower you. Many of you benefited from our SME business initiatives, participated in our Christmas Biz Fair, and took advantage of our financial solutions tailored to help your businesses grow. These are just a few examples of how we remain in your corner, and we are excited to bring even more to the table this year.

At Sagicor Bank, we pride ourselves on being more than just a financial institution. We are a one-stop customer experience—your trusted partner in business, supporting you at every stage of your journey. From our suite of prepaid, debit, and credit cards to our state-of-the-art point of sales machines and SME Resource Centre for training, we are continuously enhancing our offerings to better serve you. Our consistent support for SMEs through various initiatives is a testament to our commitment to your success.

We are also leading the way in innovation. The success of our first “phygital” branch at New Brunswick, has reaffirmed our belief in blending physical and digital banking, to offer you unparalleled convenience. And we’re not stopping there—another “phygital” location is on the horizon, right here in Kingston, at the JDF’s Up Park Camp.

Our digital transformation journey is ongoing, and we appreciate your patience as we make strategic enhancements to serve you better. We’ve already made significant upgrades to our eBank platform, with so much more to come. In the last few months, we rolled out new features, including E-Activate, the ability to set and change PINS, update login credentials with details sent via email and SMS. You also have the industry-leading ability to block and unblock your cards, set debit card transaction limits within bank-approved thresholds, and view card details for both debit and credit cards-all designed to put more control at your fingertips.

We are also the bank of choice for raising capital. Sagicor was the only local bank to offer up debt capital to fund the recently signed Rio Cobre Water Treatment plant in St. Catherine. We are also big on regional opportunities! Last year, we successfully completed a US$80 million loan syndication in Guyana, providing capital for a major conglomerate in the region’s faster-growing economy. We also spearheaded a similar process for another major local firm. So, as you also look to expand regionally, Sagicor Bank is by your side.

This evening is about more than networking—it’s about strengthening connections and fostering new ones. We encourage you to take full advantage of the opportunity to engage with us, share insights, and explore possibilities for collaboration.

On behalf of the corporate banking team, I want to extend our heartfelt gratitude for your continued partnership. Your trust in us fuels our drive to deliver solutions that truly make a difference. Speaking of making a difference, it would be remiss of me not to remind you to sign up for the Sagicor Sigma Run 2025, happening on Sunday, February 16. This year, we are aiming to raise J$115 million to support the intensive care unit at Kingston Public Hospital, the Sir John Golding Rehabilitation Centre, and Father Ho Lung and Friends’ Bethlehem Home. The deadline to register is tomorrow, so please visit SagicorSigmaRun.com for details.

A huge thank you to my team for their dedication and the exceptional customer experience they provide. And, of course, this is not just a Sagicor Bank effort—it’s a Sagicor Group effort, and we are proud to have representatives from across the group here this evening; Shane Walters, assistant vice president, real estate investment management; Tara Nunes, CEO, Sagicor Investment; Misha McLeod Hines, vice president, capital markets, Sagicor Investment; Bianca Nam, vice president, wealth management; and Dave Morrison, CEO Advantage General Insurance Company.

Ladies and gentlemen, enjoy the evening! You mean a lot to us, and we look forward to continuing to make waves together in the years to come.”
