Sagicor Group Jamaica Limited (SGJ) recorded core earnings, which exclude market-related impacts on insurance assets and liabilities as well as other non-recurring items, of $6.18 billion, reflecting the continued strength of the Group’s core operations. Net profit attributable to stockholders of $4.87 billion for the six months ended June 2026. The result represents a decline of approximately 44% from the prior-year period, reflecting elevated Hurricane Melissa-related provisions, adverse market experience and the non-recurrence of one-off gains recorded in 2025. Despite these pressures, the Group remained profitable and continued to demonstrate the underlying strength and resilience of its diversified operations.

Insurance revenue increased by $1.38 billion, or 5%, year over year, while Commercial Banking net profit rose 38% to $2.26 billion, benefiting from higher net investment income and lower credit impairment losses.

Long-Term Insurance recorded net profit of $3.66 billion, compared with $5.45 billion in the prior year, as higher onerosity and adverse market experience offset growth in insurance revenue, contractual service margin releases and new business generation. Short-Term Insurance delivered modest revenue growth to $18.94 billion, but net profit declined to $0.66 billion from $1.65 billion, reflecting higher insurance expenses, Hurricane Melissa-related claims and prior-year reserve releases.

Commercial Banking deposits increased to $217.03 billion from $202.86 billion as at year-end 2025, helping to fund $22.15 billion in new loans. Across the Group, deposit and security liabilities grew by $15.29 billion, while total assets increased to $724.87 billion from $703.60 billion at December 2025. These indicators point to sustained customer confidence and continued demand for the Group’s financial solutions.

Investment Banking reported net profit of $0.58 billion, down from $0.96 billion, as lower realised capital gains, the non-recurrence of prior-year trading gains and higher interest expense weighed on results.

“The first half of 2026 tested the strength of our business, and our results reflect those realities. While profit was lower than the prior year, Sagicor remained profitable; our core operations continued to perform, deposits grew, and we expanded lending to clients. These are important signs of confidence in the Group and in the underlying resilience of the markets we serve,” said Christopher Zacca, President and CEO, Sagicor Group Jamaica.

Stockholders’ equity stood at $116.81 billion at the end of the period, compared with $115.05 billion at December 2025, after $3.48 billion in dividends declared during the first quarter. Cash and cash equivalents were $57.94 billion, and all operating entities continued to exceed regulatory capital requirements.

With a resilient capital base, growing customer deposits and solid momentum in its core businesses, Sagicor Group Jamaica enters the second half of the year with a stable foundation. The Group remains focused on disciplined execution, prudent risk management and delivering sustainable value for clients, shareholders and the wider communities it serves.
