Liverpool will be without Mohamed Salah for their Champions League clash against Inter Milan.
The decision comes after Salah made waves in an interview on Saturday, claiming he felt “thrown under the bus” by the club and suggesting that his relationship with manager Arne Slot had broken down.
According to sources, Liverpool and Slot agreed it would be best for Salah to step away from the squad temporarily. No formal punishment is planned.
The 33-year-old is scheduled to leave for the Africa Cup of Nations next Monday, which means he is also likely to miss Liverpool’s Premier League trip to Brighton on Saturday.
Liverpool’s 19-man squad flew to Milan on Monday, with Slot set to address the media alongside goalkeeper Alisson Becker.
Salah’s comments followed his third consecutive match starting on the bench, most recently in Liverpool’s 3-3 draw at Leeds United, where he was an unused substitute.
